Can I search for posts from other people's blogs?
view all questions in Content SourcesUm...kind of...
So, there are some great sites out there that let you search across the blog-o-sphere. While FeedMagnet does not let you enter search terms directly for these sites (like we do with Google News), it is not very difficult to set up a blog search using RSS.
Setting up a blog search using Ice Rocket
Ice Rocket is a blog search engine that is fairly easy to use. By following these steps, you can start pulling search results from Ice Rocket into FeedMagnet:
- Run a search on IceRocket.com
- Copy the web address linked toward the bottom of the left sidebar, labeled "Results RSS"
- Create a new Author source in FeedMagnet, or edit one you already have
- Paste the Results RSS link from Ice Rocket in as a new "RSS or Blog" source
That should do it. Now FeedMagnet will pull in new blog posts found by your search on IceRocket automatically. Feel free to try this approach with other blog search engines - or any search engines with RSS - to pull in content. The widespread use of RSS by content sources and FeedMagnet's support for RSS make it each to get creative with pulling in content that does not come from one of the official sources in FeedMagnet.
This should get way easier soon
We're planning to automate the above process for the most popular blog search tools so that it becomes just as easy to use as the Google News search source. In the mean time, the above method should work.
