Social Commerce Summit 2010

About a week before this year's Social Commerce Summit, we got a call from Bazaarvoice wanting to use FeedMagnet at the event. The Social Commerce Summit is an event geared toward the marketing and social media leaders of the top companies in the world. It is put on by Bazaarvoice, and most - but not all - of the attendees are their clients.

The theme of the conference is using social interactions to help sell products. It's a great fit for Bazaarvoice, since their products are about capturing and displaying user generated ratings, reviews, stories, and other interactions. It's also a great fit for FeedMagnet since our product does a very similar thing - the difference being that we gather existing content from social networks as opposed to soliciting users to write content directly on the commerce site.

In the week leading up the conference, we worked with their marketing team to set up four magnet pages to use at the event and on their website. The result - like the conference itself - was a big success.

The primary magnet page we set up powered the large displays in the conference hall as well as LCD panels in the foyer. It pulled in content from Twitter and Flickr - both from the Bazaarvoice staff running the conference and from attendees.

FeedMagnet enabled Bazaarvoice to combine multiple Twitter and Flickr searches into a single stream for display in near real-time. We used filtering to edit out inappropriate words, but other than that we allowed all updates through to the screens un-moderated.

The same content feed was also streamed to the social commerce website and to screens at the Bazaarvoice headquarters, with different layouts to match the different environments.

In addition to the live feeds from the event, we created a mobile-optimized feed combining brand mentions for many of the companies in attendance. Attendees could pull up the feed from their laptops or cell phones to see what consumers were saying about them, reinforcing one of the themes of the event - that user interactions are at the heart of brands.

The event was a lot of fun. If you want to learn more about using FeedMagnet for events, contact us to set up a demo.
