We are the Powerpoint of social media

Back in the day, there wasn't a suite of tools called Microsoft Office. There were just word processors, spreadsheets, and other stand-alone business tools. Eventually the tools were packaged and sold as a unit. Microsoft Office, iWork, Google Docs, etc.

At some point social media tools will be packaged in a similar way, but right now we are still in the era of stand-alone tools: HooteSuite, CoTweet, Spredfast, Radian6, etc. Each tool has a specific purpose and function. FeedMagnet is one of the first in a new category of tools. In our analogy, we are the Powerpoint (we actually prefer Keynote, but you get the idea) of social media.

The big three

Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. Document, Spreadsheet, and Presentation. While there are a number of peripheral business apps to do things like project management and diagraming, these three tools are the big three of office software.

In our analogy, social media response and analytics tools are like the word processor and spreadsheet. They are arguably the most important tools and have had the most early attention and innovation.

In fact, if you are not doing anything with social media, you should really start with the tools in these categories. If you are not listening to your customers and responding to their questions, concerns, and other needs, you really shouldn't be too concerned about showing off social content in marketing materials.

Eventually though, the word processor and spreadsheet aren't enough. Businesses need tools to help them present information to their audience in the most compelling way possible. Social content display

Social content display is the showcasing of select content from the social web on a website or a physical display or device. Twitter widgets and hash tag streams at events are great examples of social content display.
