Can I pull in content from Facebook?

view all questions in Content Sources

The short answer: no

Unfortunately, Facebook hasn't provided a way for us to pull in public content yet.

The long answer: we're waiting on Facebook...

The reason why you see so many apps and websites that use data from Twitter, but very few that work with Facebook, is because Facebook was a closed system until recently. When you posted a status update, photo, video, or other content to Facebook, only your friends or people in closed networks that you were a part of (like a university or city) could see your content.

Facebook recently changed the way their system works, opening up their platform to allow status updates to be visible to the world. You can still post updates that only your friends can see, but the new default is for them to be public - making Facebook work more like the way most people use Twitter.

While this is a huge step toward sites like FeedMagnet being able to pull in Facebook content, the Facebook API has not been updated to provide a way for developers to get at the data. It seems that Facebook will likely update their API soon, and we have a todo item to provide FeedMagnet integration as soon as they do - but for now, you are going to have to wait along with us for Facebook support.
